Can I get a degree from the Coastal Studies Institute?

No, you cannot earn a degree here, but you may enroll in various educational programs offered as a result of CSI’s collaboration with five partner campuses: UNC-Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, Elizabeth City State University, UNC-Wilmington, and NC State University.
How do I enroll in the educational programs offered?

To participate in the programs, you must matriculate in one of the five partner institutions. The Coastal Studies Institute provides educational experiences for students through a variety of onsite course and distance education programs. Do you offer courses for adults?

The Coastal Studies Institute is currently developing summer programming for adults and families. Once these programs have been developed they will be posted on the website.

In addition, CSI hosts a public lecture series entitled, “Science on the Sound”. This series, held monthly, highlights research on coastal topics and issues in northeastern North Carolina and features researchers, scientists, engineers and educators from the Coastal Studies Institute and other partner institutions. These programs are broadcast live at the Institute and are live-streamed on the CSI U-stream page. Notices of upcoming lectures are posted on the website and on CSI’s Facebook page. Do you offer summer camps for children?

CSI offers four summer experiences for campers 10-15 years of age. The day camps begin and end at CSI each day, but campers visit many areas of the Outer Banks by van, boat, and kayak. CSI summer day camps combine STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) education with fun, hands-on activities that keep campers engaged while investigating the local ecology. Students will snorkel, kayak, collect species samples through a variety of methods including seining, trawling, and hook and line, examine plankton under a microscope, and much more. Do you have any job openings?

Job opportunities are posted on the home page of our website. East Carolina University is the administrative campus for the Institute; therefore, the application process is handled through ECU.
